  1. cool video—i didn't feel you were being negative at all–just giving people the cool pro's and con's–even in paradise you have to be wise…nice smile you have ,too!! and btw I love Oahu…loved running the ala wai and my bud/bruddah stayed on university/King st. huggs/thx/ mahalo

  2. Zanzibar is very beautiful but you're absolutely right… it is EXHAUSTING being constantly (and I do mean CONSTANTLY) hounded by hawkers and touts. It can be so difficult to get a moment's peace. They are known as "papasi" – which is Swahili for 'ticks' – and you will come to understand why. They are tenacious little bloodsuckers who will not leave you alone no matter how many times you tell them to go away. You cannot even go to a bar for a quiet drink because someone will sit down next to you immediately and try to sell you something. And there really isn't anyone on the island who isn't running some kind of hustle. I'm glad I went but I would never go back.

  3. In Jamaica some years ago there was the same issue of aggressive hawkers. You would get the "Jamaican Handshake", where they would shake your hand and then not let go. My wife learned to dress down in town, slightly shabby, with her hair under a hat.. And I got some reflecto sunglasses for us, because if they could not see your eyes it put them off.
