As a resident of Crown Heights for over 25 years, and as a worshiper in the 770 synagogue since 1988, I can tell you that there is no mystery here. The intent of the unruly yeshivah students was to expand the synagogue, a need expressed by most of the community because the Chabad Lubavitch headquarters synagogue has become extremely overcrowded, particularly in the Jewish high holidays. But a long-stading court case between the congregation leaders and the institutions that own the building has delayed any expansion plans for many years. The yeshivah students decided on their own to circumvent the redtape, and acted secretly and without authorization to reach the area under the women's gallery from an abandoned men's mikveh on the back street, and dug under the women's gallery — that was the "strange noises" — to clear that space and expand the synagogue there. The problem: they did not have any permits, or permission, to do so. That's all there was.

Maybe these students were actually trying to expose to the world what the Chabad leaders’ were doing? They were trying to prevent the cement trucks from destroying the evidence. Anyone who knows how powerful and influential the Chabad Lubovich sect is in the world of geopolitics and events that are taking place right now in Israel and Ukraine, would question the role the NYPD is really playing in this? Are they there to question and investigate a crime or are they there to cover it up.

As an Asian who moved to this neighborhood 8 years ago, my family, friends, and I have been frequent visitors to this building, even to some rabbi's house.
