I was in Zimbabwe in 97/98/99. My friends over there eventually left as it'd become far too dangerous for them. Fantastic country and i loved safari at Hwange, visiting Victoria Falls, fishing on Lake Kariba, seeing Worlds View,Chinoi caves and visiting Leopard Rock casino. I also watched Zimbabwe vs Australia test match cricket and met Shane Warne 😁. Good times indeed. Wish i could've seen it back when it was Rhodesia.
I drove through Bulawayo last year, and it was a depressing sight. the place was a time capsule. All the buildings were the same, and even some of the cars. I even saw a couple Peugeot station wagons. My dad told me all the Whenwes drove them around in the 80s. After being in a civilised nation like Botswana for the majority of my trip, entering Rhodesia and seeing what was left was kind of tragic. It looked like the place looked 50 years ago, except shit and torn to pieces.
Everything’s so clean there’s no trash on the streets there’s no graffiti on the buildings plenty of running water a stable currency a thriving economy booming agriculture plenty of electricity and air conditioning white people sure know how to build an incredible civilization❤
MY FAVOURITE PART IS WHERE YOUR HERO moo gah bee WON HIS STATE SPONSOORED LOTTERY YEAH THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENNED AND HIS BRAIN DEAD PEASANTS SAID HE WAS LUCKY BUT YOU DIDNT SEE A PENNY OF THE CASH 😂
Reminds me of my childhood in Highfields. Every system was functioning exceptionally fantastic during Rhodesia. Not what we are seeing today with ZANUPf.
These images bring back memories of my time in the country from 78-80 as a 25-26 year old Canadian journalist. I managed to slip into the country faking as a student (I had actually graduated a couple of years earlier) and then, once there, applied for a sub-editor's job on the Bulawayo Chronicle. With wartime call-up shortages, they hired me — and because my skin colour was correct, the Rhodesian immigration department had no trouble issuing me a work permit/visa marked "journalist" — allowing me to live through the conclusion of the war. This proved to be a wonderful way to come of age and figure out the world isn't the black-and-white of ideological perspective, but much more nuanced. I've had the opportunity to revisit Zimbabwe a couple of times in more recent years; things are far from perfect but the country's natural beauty remains.
A country now owned by the Chinese… a Zimbabwe that failed it economically because they failed to maintain infrastructure and production of commodities. Now they totally rely on importation of basic commodities like food etc . Look inside the shops and see the selection it’s mostly imported . Rhodesia was prosperous and wealthy . No debits .. now its currency is fit for toilet paper . It worth nothing on the international market , no country wants the Zimbabwe dollar . Totally reliant on the $US . Britain and America you should be ashamed for what you have done to such a nation . The only people who benefit from the country is China . They are exploiting all of it and soon it will be theirs . 😂
By oppressing black people, the racist Rhodesians gave over a beautiful country to ZANU scoundrels. Everybody could have lived in peace and enjoyed what the country offers but no, they decided whites must have it all. Racists destroyed Zimbabwe by creating a fertile ground for ZANU to get support of the oppressed majority.
Stirs the emotions of a once country yet still has so much potential. All my formative years there. Great sound track. Just adds to the nostalgia tinged with sadness
And of course the blacks ruined the country when it became Zimbabwe. The state of the country now is heartbreaking. Well done Mugabe and your corrupt uncivilised henchmen.
Rhodesia was better
Sad watching a gem that got turned into a shit hole , beautiful once 😢
I am not Zimbabwean, but this makes me nostalgic. This country would have been the bread basket of Africa by now.

Yes, then the bread bowl of Africa with agricultural surpluses and now sadly a basket case killed off by a dictator who blamed imperialism.

😢 When Bulawayo was Bulawayo
We fumbled our country
I was privileged to have visited Rhodesia in the 70s before it was destroyed.
Min London that was good
Very similar to South Africa in the same way.?

It is amazing how not only the racists celebrated their racism but openly yearn for it
Unfortunately it was an artificial world. The majority blacks were isolated.
Then they fucked it up. Now SA too
The sound track though👌👌👌😍😍😍

there’s nothing at all nostalgic about this racist state
Beautiful country I love you the music who was the artist
The only problem then was that only the whites (perhaps with a few blacks) enjoyed the best things with blacks as their servants
