Holy [bleep]! I just realized something (today, on the eve of the semifinals)!
Not a single group winner made the semifinals! Nigeria finished 2nd in their group, South Africa finished 2nd in their group, DR Congo finished 2nd in their group, and the hosts Ivory Coast finished 3rd (behind Nigeria)!
The group winners were Equatorial Guinea, Cape Verde Islands, Senegal, Angola, Mali, and Morocco! Not one of them made the semifinals!
That is mind-blowing! It speaks to how unpredictable this tournament has been! And I genuinely have no clue who is going to go on to win this tournament!
Shame to see Cape Verde go, they were one of the most exciting teams to watch

I started watching AFCON during the knockout stage and man it’s been so entertaining. Was rooting for the underdogs Cape Verde but the South African goalie was a beast this game. Truly amazing game and had me at the edge of my seat during PK 👏
