Sorry but owning assets in larger countries who can defend themselves, who have large institutions to combat any Chinese intelligence actions, and whose economic collapse would harm China just as much is not the same as buying up smaller, weaker, more susceptible nations like Barbados who can't really fight back against Chinese interference and eventually become beholden to Chinese economic, fiscal and military pressure.
Even the PM seems to be missing a point. This feels like a power move by China against the US. Get reaources in places closer to your enemy.

While the PM makes a very good point, Zeinab Badawi is a very thoughtful journalist and author and very capable to take a point. And in her recent book “An African History of Africa”, she takes exactly that same perspective.
