A word about safety in Lalibela.
We visited the city at the end of October 2023. At that time, there was ongoing tensions in the Amhara region, and travel warning by foreign governments were in place. We got in touch with a couple of locals very aware of the current situation and got reassured to the point where we felt comfortable flying in for a couple of days. On the ground there, we felt quite at ease and weren't particularly stressed. But us having had a smooth trip doesn't mean that it's necessarily the same for you, so please make sure to keep updated with the most recent information if you're planning a visit.
