I wanted to enjoy this album so much because I like the idea of Jacob but god it was so unbearable. I wish I never heard his music so it didn’t spoil my impression of him. Didn’t connect with any ideas at all on this cut. and when he pulled from genres familiar the most to me it sounds so gentrified
w/r/t your closing remarks– I'm 56, and in my lifetime I've listened to no more than 5 albums (excluding "best of" compilations and EPs with only a few songs) that were comprised entirely of songs I liked and wanted to hear again. There are plenty of "near misses", but for every single song to resonate with a listener takes a combination of greatness and serendipity. Amazingly, one of those albums is actually a double-album– Pink Floyd's "The Wall". I didn't love every song the first time I heard it, but back in the day with turntables and cassette players, it took more effort to skip a song, and after a few listens, there weren't any songs that I would skip, even if I could– and that remains true until this very day. "Dark Side of the Moon" is also on that very short list for me.

box of stars is a grand farewell and summing up of the djesse vol and the last 6 years of his life. all of it. including of course audience choir, around which the whole cd is based vast amount of throwbacks to all of the djesse project. but mostly a love letter to his beloved fans

I just found out about Jacob and initially bought into the hype train and my ears wouldn’t have it! Honestly his music at first was interesting, now I can’t stand it! It’s too much going on and doesn’t even come close to moving me emotionally.
Great reaction! You mentioned liking “Erase Me,” so I wanted to point out that Jacob actually quotes the ending of the Erase Me chorus in Summer Rain, right after the first half of Madison’s verse! You mentioned the #11 right at that point 🙂 I’ve been loving this album since it came out!
Yebba was not credited on Bridge because she specifically asked not to be. She didn’t sing that for this, she wasn’t available to finish her part, so she didn’t feel she contributed to the creation of the new track
If you just wanted another Djesse v3, then your expectations were wrong. From the very beginning, all of the albums were meant to be completely different. I get they’re not your taste maybe but jeez.

I loved this video. Reacting to the whole album
My first listen through I had some similar opinions to yours about some of the tracks. Believe me when I tell you that it grows on you immensely. there are aspects of each song that give clues to the other tracks and you start to notice the common theme of loss, recovery, inner strength and growth. The whole album is a journey through the mind of Jacob and he uses the broad brush of genres to express wordless emotions and we’re just along for the ride
I think there is so much variety in each track that you shouldn't' skip parts
World O World is totally Jacob's… written and arranged. Performed by the Aeolians of Oakwood class of 2016, who you first heard in his version of All Night Long with Take 6
Oh yeah. A bunch of us responded to a Jacob short asking us to record the Get Up On Your Feet phrase. I don't know whether i made the cut. Kirk Franklin's choir are on that one on Box of Stars 1.

FYI, Michael Mcdonald is an internationally renowned artist with music spanning from the 1970s to now. He is primarily associated with Steeley Dan and The Doobie Brothers and others via Quincy Jones and others.
Anouska Shankar is the Sitar player and daughter of world famous Sitar player, Ravi Shankar.
Yebba's original clip cut short before she finished the last few nites. Jacob edited in notes from another of her songs to complete her verse.
