The name Benin is from Benin kingdom in present day Nigeria. The name darhomey was changed to Benin when the colonial masters and the government of Benin republic came to Benin kingdom in present day Nigeria to take permission from the Oba of Benin because they darhomey traced their ancestral homes to the people of Benin in present day Nigeria.
