I think this happened in the city I grew up in and the stores didn’t last 2 years. Lol
Criminals will simply rob the government owned store too and all the grant money that was intended for a struggling community will go into the pockets of crime syndicates. They're trying treat a symptom instead of addressing the root cause.
It was safer in the wild west. Back then, you didn't have to go through all the red tape to own a weapon just to defend yourself. Johnson defunding the CPD, and his leanancy towards murderers, has made people feel threatened. To my fellow Chicagoan's: IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP! Voting for progressive assholes will prove detrimental to us all. In November, give Republicans a try. I mean, what do you have to lose?

Police don’t need to be defunded. They need more intensive training and a proper review board that hold them accountable.

Stores and business were leaving prior to defund initiatives.
It’s a movement that’s been in progress a very long time. Grocery stores and other stores closing and nothing replacing them for the last 15 or 20 years.
Also, Suburbs like Matteson, country club hills, Markham starting to look like the south side of Chicago, while Olympia fields, Homewood, Orland and the like prosper. And some city boundary lines are funky, where more businesses appear to land outside of BLK neighborhoods.
Come on playa! What if you don't know what gentrification looks like? Ask the black people who used to live in Brooklyn, New York! These black mayors of these blue state cities are sending blacks to “ the new black reservation, called the suburbs! Yes, ex-first lady Michele Obama there is white flight happening in white suburbs around the country ( a county tax increase is coming too! More people need more services and the county needs to raise revenue ). Big Chief “ Give 'em up “ of the New York city tribe is trying to keep from laughing in the face of his supporters and the black community because they fail to read the writing on the wall ( or real estate sign ). Think about why Black Lives Matter really got paid ( by the association of Realtors and developers ) during the riots. George Floyd? An ex-convict and drug addict? Hell no! The females are lesbians and have no use for a man ( especially a black one ). Nope, real estate in urban neighborhoods. Why do you think they only destroyed the poor parts of cities ( except in Rochester, New York if ex-president Obama, Seal Team 6, and the Secret Service weren't going down Hudson Avenue the Scam Lives Matter definitely wasn't going on Hudson Ave and that's were the poverty is. Well if you look at the woman of BLM poverty isn't in their vocabulary (diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure are. Maybe it is too many scrimps ( no not shrimps, but scrimps ). Lucrative real estate, undeveloped in major blue state cities. The developers point out a building that they want, BLM shows up and calls them the great oppressor, stages a protest, and 5 minutes later the building is engulfed in flames. A lot of people got rich off of George Floyd ( a lot of college-educated blacks who poured gasoline lace hate messages and then stepped back and threw a match, then disappeared. But made a ton of money ( and got away scot-free).
Can you imagine how much the taxes and the prices would be to keep up with the stealing?
Crime is now a business on various levels.

Chicago is a product of generations of political corruption, much of it centered by one family whose father and son collectively ran the city about about half a century.
And when we cry about Chicago, no one ever mentions the name of that family.
No money to stop crime in this neighborhood so free enterprise can flourish but they will find the money to build, stock and staff a grocery store. Communism complements of the Democratic Party.
Paid for with Grant money from other states. Keep that in mind, you as a taxpayer in another state will be on the hook for their failure to enforce the laws.

When the state runs the means of distribution (even at cut rate price) it’s called So Shall Izum. And insofar as grants, that American Taxpayer money, not just local money. Lastly, when are black folks going to wake the hell up and stop participating in their own demise. Never mind, they will vote Dem even it’s only 2 Blk folks left.
