Is the iPhone “Illegal?”

The US sued Apple for the iPhone being a monopoly… is the walled garden illegal?

  1. Everyone knows the DOJ has had it out for Apple since they refused to hand the FBI a master key to iCloud. That's what this really is. DOJ is salty that Apple told them to pound sand.

  2. Apple is one of the few companies that practice good design for the products HOLISTICALLY. The apple eco system is only part of good ux design. Other companies that pull off good design (rarely) do it in certain areas that tend to be superficial for marketing purposes for that shiny object syndrome.

Plus, frankly, google and chinese products don't have a good rep when it comes to privacy and safety. Sure you can tinker with it to make it safer than apple, but that's not for the average person out there.

  3. I've always been android…I did try out iPhone & I wasn't a fan; the camera & imessage games were my only favorite things.
I've had the iPhone 1, 5 & 8 (5 was pretty good, updated all the way to the 12) I don't think I'll never get another iPhone

  4. Speaking of legal and illegal. The fact that Apple doesn't allow me to transfer files to other non-apple devices via bluetooth should also be considered illegal, imo.

  5. wechat would be illegal in USA and EU…. because this app do have some things that not other app can… like the support of they gouvernement…. and a lot of funtionalities that work only there….

  6. The dominance of iPhone in the US and not in other countries is because of its price. I have to spend my 2 whole wages to buy an iPhone 15 pro in Poland. Meanwhile in the US it's not even half of a paycheck if i'm right?

  7. I’m from the US. I have used both Android and iPhone. I don’t see how it’s a monopoly if you can just go buy a different phone. The walls are pointless if you can just say f apple and go buy an android or a flip phone. I would call it a monopoly if you had to have an iPhone because it was the only device available because they bought or destroyed everything else and there was no competition.

  8. The word is "unethical". I hope there are better interoperability guidelines so no one company can force people to chose their products and tie them to their ecosystem.

  9. Im going to be brutally honest. iphone isnt good anymore. People get it because other people have it. Or theya re soo use to the UI. It feels too simple to me. But i dont mind if my friends have it. The only reason id get it is for the apple watch. And i dont have enough money for all of that. even if i did i dont know if i would stay. I had iphone long ago and ended up trying pixel and samsung and sticking with them, no regrets <3

  10. what if i produce a car, but it only works with my gasoline?, and if someone else wants to sell you gasoline im gonna charge them 30%, also if you want to change the oil of the car, it has to be the oil i produce, same with the tires, only my tires work well, im gonna make the car feel bumpy if its not using my brands tires, thats monopolistic behavior right?

  11. A lot of the staff at my recovery program have iPhones. I had edited a 4K video using my Windows 11 Pro for Workstations gaming laptop, which has a NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4060 GPU, and the final cut was in MP4 format because everything there needs to be as accessible as possible (a.k.a. no proprietary formats) and when one of them tried to download it to their iPhone from Google Drive to upload to Facebook and YouTube, iOS was blocking the download. They had to get a Windows laptop out of their locked tech cabinet to do the post/upload. Also, one of the staff tried to Facetime a client that had a Samsung Galaxy A15 smartphone and she got pissed when it didn't work and I was able to video call them no problem using Google Meet. I own a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with Verizon 5G UW cell service.

  12. S24 Ultra user here. I will never buy anything from a company which still sells phones with 60hz screens for SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS.
My phone is not perfect, but i will never buy an iScam device.

  13. What’s funny about the WeChat example is you could use WeChat as an example of a monopoly. Like you said, it does literally everything from banking to calling a taxi to messaging to making payments. Kinda hard to compete in the software market with that around.
