Ifa Divination Animated & Explained

This is part of a new “Worlds of Wisdom” series I am creating that builds from my Introduction to the World’s Religions class.

This is by far the most elaborate PowerPoint I have ever made. Let me know if you think I should do a tutorial.

Based mostly on the chapter on Yoruba Religion by Stephen Prothero in God is Not One.

  1. It's so sad how even yoruba people do not know about these thigs. The foreigners came, sold us different accounts of the interpretations of the world and told us our traditional religion is evil. So sad.

  2. I wish you did more video's on religion in general. This was a very informative video. I don't think I saw anything about Ori or reincarnation, so it was nice to hear.

  3. It's sad that we r the only group of ppl who do worship our ancestors…. Every other race does… I am a Yoruba priestess I really don't need a Whyte ppl to teach me about my spirituality who God is….. We as black folks have listen to long to ppl trying to tell us who we r and what we need…. Whyte man went into Africa to steal and take from us and turn us against our traditional culture weather u realize it or not many of them r practicing Yoruba ….. Black folks WAKE UP
This is ur birth right investigate
Research for yourself…. Whatever ur religion is Practicing Yoruba doesn't take away from it!!! Do ur Homework…. Mic dropped

  4. I highly respect his perspective upon what he learned, but this isn’t explain accurately. This is more of a Santeria view not the traditional Yoruba. You mixed Yoruba with Santeria. Although they are similar they are different.

  5. The woman at the beginning of this video is unfortunately quite ignorant. Please, read a few books. Learn. The Bible is not the only book in the world.

  6. Thank you Sir for making this video as a African American who grew up in a Christian household and as one who left Christianity at age 16. I really appreciate your interest in Yoruba spiritual traditionns.

  7. Personally I don’t like seeing celebs use Orishas as a marketing tool. Let’s get real, this isn’t art, she’s an industry created pop star. If she’s not careful, Oshun may give her a spanking cause she don’t play. In the other hand, in its lesser benefit, it opens up discussion about spirituality most ppl discussing know nothing about. If you’re not crowned don’t even weigh in, cause you don’t know.

  8. The first mention of a "satan" or "devil was the Bible Judaism & Christianity. Genesis, John, New Testament. There is No "good vs evil" in relation to Olodumare. Evil was brung about by the modern cultures.

  9. It is the clear symptom of a demoralized and culturally broken people, for them to embrace their oppressor's religion as their own, and to think that their own heritage is somehow demonic and suspect.
Christianity and the internalized shame of their own culture's spiritual traditions is the last chain of the colonizers these people need to learn to throw off.

  10. Michelle is from Zambia her father refused to know her because is an albino now my father was called by ifa to help her reach puberty. Her biracial mom could not understand what ifa is.
