Southgate is a risk because we don't know how he would play at club level, his CV isn't great at club level and he's failed to win probably England's best squad since 1966 a trophy.
My defense for him is no one has succeeded to win any England team a trophy since 1966 and he's built this England side from the ground up. Only Walker, Stones and Kane remain from that original team he took over, he rebuilt England.
My second defense would be he's never had the team to play "Southgate ball", we've never seen him given a chance but we also know he can play counter attacking football to great effect something ten Hag can't do. We've also seen in recent years Southgate chose to switch from a back three to a 4-3-3 to utilize the attacking talent in England, the Bellingham's, Saka's and Foden's who were being underutilized and he's also shown willingness to play a highline proving he's adaptable.
My third defense for him is at Middlesbrough he was shit but it was his first job and everywhere he's been since he's been great. For the u21 team he was amazing and for England he's been amazing.
