Irish-Catholic immigrants have a long and complex history in America, dating back to colonial times. Charles Carroll, an Irish immigrant, came to America in 1706, and his grandson, Charles Carroll of Carrollton, signed his name to…

  1. The Irish came to Ameriaca as we were forced out of our country by mass genocide. Either starve or leave . The English shipped thousands of ships of food out of our country , leaving the Irish to survive on grass no it wasn't a famine it mass genocide!! I suggest you come to Ireland and do some research, we have museums and physical evidence of logs that documented these ships exporting food out of Eire . People need to know the truth !! This was mass murder !! We the Irish are proud our ancestors took on the jobs others wouldn't and built America , we are a strong proud race !! no amount of racism will deter us …

  2. @bluetankman1
Thank you for your Kind comment. I am white Irish, I have only a few words that I know in the language left that my Grand parents bestowed upon me. I like Black peoply, to me they are strong, faithful, kind and above all GOOD hard Honest people.
My brother was in New Zealand last month and heard the word from the real people that their culture, language, art. being, and life was useless and inferiour.
I love playing the guitar, and most of the time I fall into the Blues music from the USA, Why one may ask why ?

  3. Well I'm Irish and I know this history very well and I will never label myself by a skin color I will never be whitewashed I'm from county Cork but I know live in the united states.. Thank you for sharing this time in Irish history which was very sad but should be remembered because our ancestors suffering should never go ignored….

  4. From the beautiful Campile, CO. Wexford Ireland greetings and gratitude for this enlightening and scholarly treatise; Irish American beware of the bigoted shame you dished out on your Irish brethren the living and the dead!

I love irish ppl i love everybody but its just not the same stuff like Emmett till and black wallstreet….rosewood…these are just bleh

  6. The Irish are a part of the matrix that hold this nation together. Resilient, outgoing, resourceful, audacious, humorous, self depreciating, empathetic and a wee bit stubborn😉

  7. 68, paid attention in history, love to read, etc. etc. This is so fascinating. Orher than a lower class group, have never heard most of this at all. Listened to your one on Italians and am looking forward to your other history lessons.

  8. Well, Irish Catholics really were considered fully white in the Southern US, (even if still facing some discrimination) and many actually owned slaves though their Catholicism was depending on locations. Many quickly became protestant in the South in reponce. Ironically, this is in contrast to the Italian experience (many Italians were actually Lynched in New Orleans and Birmingham) as it was the North where the Irish faced far more prejudice.

  9. Oh good! I saw a vid about Italian Americans and I thought this might be a channel I could be happy about (educationally speaking) but I wanted to find out if there was anything about how awful the Irish had it before I got involved in watching. I find many people skip them over or even accuse them and the Scottish of starting the slave trade in America, instead of knowing anything about their real history here. I haven't watched this video yet, but the little I saw of the description told me it's bound to have some good, factual information and I thank you for that.

  10. I appreciate how you emphasize that learning history is not to victimize the marginalized or to be decisive. Being well informed and actively aware of our history keeps us from repeating. Helps us to know why we are the way we are today and if we need to change things that are no longer or have never been valid to begin with. It’s always about money and control. You wonder why certain things are not taught or emphasized in school. Then the media and the government uses these same ploys to pin us against one another. The real war won’t be a race one, it will be amongst the haves and the have nots. The rich against the poor. The ones who know, the ones who desire to know

  11. My Mother was a MacRaighnaill . We were the first of the Clans to have our lands taken by the English in the 1500s . Lord Trevelyan , came from Truro , in Cornwall . Trevelyan also starved the Cornish , the same as he did the Irish , because of The Free trade agreement . If the goods could get a better price elsewhere , that is where it went , under armed guard . This is the ugly face of Colonialism , Expansionism , Globalism , and it is still just as ugly today , and by the same ones behind it all .

  12. The reason the Irish were dependent on potatoes was because the British exported most of the other food stuffs. It's not a "famine," if all your food is stolen. It's weaponized starvation.

  13. I'm of mixed ancestry. On my mom's side, French Canadian, German and Iroquois. On my father's side, Irish, but my brother, the "family history sleuth", believes there was a Mohawk ancestor on Dad's side. Two of Dad's ancestors came from County Donegal via a "coffin ship". I'm grateful to my dad for the Irish folk stories and music I grew up with and continue to love. I'm proud of all of my ancestry. I have the opinion that hatred and anger is based on fear. Whatever – hatred and violence is always evil!

  14. As an American of Sicilian, Irish, and Native American descent… I appreciate your effort trying to cover this topic, but the comment about Irish Americans wanting to own slaves is inaccurate. Not all Irish Americans supported slavery and many Irish Americans fought and died in the civil war fighting for the Union.

  15. They hated the Irish because they didn’t support slavery so they were seen as being stupid and seen as a threat. They compared them to monkeys to mock them for not wanting to enslave Africans.

  16. The Irish should get reparations. Not only were there treated like slaves and sold as indentured servants, they fought in a civil war and gained nothing. Many lost a lot of family in the civil war.

  17. The Irish did not support slavery. I have family who are of Irish descent who lived in America last name McAvoy who fought for the union against slavery.

  18. The irish well aware of the prejudice against them shrugged it off, worked hard and moved on up the ladder.
800 yrs of oppression by the brits did leave a mark tho, took generations to shake off.

  19. THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO. HERE IS MY TWO CENTS. YES HISTORY HAS AND ALWAYS REPEAT ITSELF UNFORTUNATELY.

IT PAINS ME THAT WE HAVE THIS IN FIGHTING. AND THE WELL TO DO AND ALOT IF SOCIETY PUSHES THAT AND DOES THAT THEM SELVES. THEY ARE TO BLAME.

AMERICAN DON'T FORGET IS A PRECIOUS MELDING POT AND ALWAYS WILL BE. BUT UNTIL WE PRACTICE UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL THIS HORRIBLE, NITEMARE AND INJUSTICE WILL CONTINUE .

HENSE HISTORY WILL REPEAT ITSELF. I BELIEVE EVERY PRECIOUS SOUL AND DIFFERENT CULTURES ARE PRECIOUS AND ARE EQUAL.

NO ONE HAS BEEN NOR EVER WILL BE IN CLUDING CULTURES AND CLASSES ARE BETTER THEN THE OTHER. BUT ITS ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE THE TYPE THAT ISN'T FOR THAT.

BUT THEY ARE ALSO PART IF THE MELTING POT OF AMERICA BELIEVE IT OR NOT AND THEY MUST BE DELT WITH. WE CAN'T LET RACIAL DIVIDE THRIFT. WE CAN'T LET IT WIN. WE MUST REALLY FIGHT FOR IT AND THERE ARE RIGHTS THAT ARE STILL NOT BEING GIVEN TO ALOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE.

II KNOW BECAUSE I AM ONE IF THISE WHO RIGHTS ARE ALWAYS VIOLATED AND IS PREJUDICE AGAINST, DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, BIAS AGAINST ECT, ECT.

I AM PROUD OF ALL THESE DIFFERENT CULTURES NO MATTER YOUR RACES, COLOR OR BELIEFS.. NO MATTER IF YOUR ARE A MAN, WOMEN OR CHILD. I APPRECIATE THEM.

BUT LETS WORK TOGETHER AND KICK THESE HATERS OUT OF OFFICE AND TAKE BACK WHAT IS RIGHT AND ARE RIGHT AND GIVE IT, ALL RIGHT, TO ALL

I DON'T SEE THAT. I SEE VERY FEW AT TIMES FIGHT BUT NOT ON THE STREET. BUT NO ONE IS OUT THERE REALLY FIGHTING AND RIOTING IN A PEACEFULL MANNER AT ALL.

WORDS AREN'T ENUFF AND ITS GOT TO DONE RIGHT TO NOT SPREAD MORE OF THE SAME.

UNFORTUNATELY I ONLY SEE PEOPLE CARING ABOUT THEMSELVES ONLY AND MAYBE THEIR FAMILY BUT NO ONE ELSE. AND THEY ALSO UNFORTUNATELY ONLY CARE ABOUT HOW FREAKING MUCH SOMEONE MAKES AND THE ALMIGHTY FREAKING DOLLAR WELL THEY ABUSED, LOOK DOWN , ATTACK THE LESS FORTUNATE. AND WE ALL ARE GUILTY OF THAT.

I SHOULD KNOW I HAVE EXPERIENCED IT ALL MY LIFE BEING AN ORPHAN, BEING AND UNLUCKY AND A NOBODY AND LESS FORTUNATE JUST BECAUSE I WAS BORN POOR AND UNWANTED.

I WAS VICTIMIZED ALL MY LIFE AND STILL GOING THREW IT BUT I AN'T NO VICTIM. BUT I AM STILL A VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCES. CIRCUMSTANCES I CAN'T BREAK FREE OF.

HENSE THESE QUESTIONS WHY WHERE IS OUR FREEDOM ALSO WHERE US OUR RIGHTS AND PROTECTIONS.

THERE WAS ALL TYPES OF SLAVERY AND IN MY OPINION STILL IS EVEN AND JUST MUCH IN AMERICA AS ANY WHERE ELSE.

ANOTHER QUESTION WHO IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THAT???!!!! ARE YOU THE MAKER OF THIS VIDEO I MUST ASK, ARE YOU DOING YOUR PART????

IS ANYONE DOING THEIR PART. LOOK IN THE MIRROR BEFORE JUDGING OTHERS . PEOPLE LETS REALLY TRY SOMETHING ELSE AND STOP HISTORY FROM REPEATING INSELF IF THATS EVEN POSSIBLE.

GREAT HEALTH TO YA ALL AND PEACE, AND TOO ALL A GODD DAY/ NITE WHERE YOU PRECIOUS SOULS MAYBE. PEACE.

  20. I don't know why the Anglos have been speaking about whiteness instead of coolness. They might as well have called his collective as "the cool ones" instead "the whites"… why mention a colour when clearly you are just cherry picking who's in and who's out? 😂😂😂

  21. The English colonisers spread the protestant ignorance/fear of other. Poor Catholics: Italians, Irish are class discriminated. Look at the sanghi(s) of India; they copied this caste system narrow mind set.

  22. I always loved the Irish. They're much like us Mexicans. Full of heart and a deep love of family. Always ready for a hug or a fight. Hell, my niece is half Irish! 😂
    Facts.
