SABBATH: Learn Why the Number 7 Is Used So Much in the Bible

On page one of the Bible, God orders a beautiful world out of chaotic darkness within a sequence of six days. And on the seventh day, God rests. This introduces the major biblical theme of patterns of seven that conclude with God and humans resting together as partners. In this video, we explore the theme of seventh day rest and the biblical…

  1. BibleProject creates free resources to help you experience the Bible. Everything we make is funded by generous supporters around the world. You can see our entire video library, check out our other resources, and give at bibleproject.com.

  2. Hebrews 4:9-11 says . . . 9 Therefore, a Sabbath rest remains for God’s people. 10 For the person who has entered His rest has rested from his own works, just as God did from His. 11 Let us then make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience.

  3. ‭(Luke) 23:56 "And having returned, they prepared spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the command." There are others in the NT about resting on Sabbath.

Yahusha said we rest in Him but we also abide in Him. The confusion mainstream Christianity teaches is why most believe Yahushas Commands are done away with even though He said they are NOT in Matthew 5. Also In 1 John 2:3-6 and other verses. In context!

You guys do great videos but sadly you teach the broad way. Yahusha's path is Narrow and few will find it. Obeying His Torah doesn't earn us salvation (Torah which simply means Instructions was never meant to save). We obey His Torah because we love Him. John 14:15.

The commands teaches us HOW to love Him and Others. Father even tells us He shows Loving commitment to those who obey them. EX 20:6.

I pray more believers find the narrow way. That is Torah and scripture is littered with verses that show this (e.g Duet 6:25, Rom 3:31 to name a couple). Shalom

  4. So beautiful
I feel so deeply that believing in rest is on the heart of God these days. It’s like our society refuses to allow us to rest from working, cleaning, DOING. What a terrible deception of the enemy, trying to steal our rest even as we live in Christ.
The message of this video is so important to me and I pray that more would come to understand and receive it

  5. A family member was recently disgruntled about how Jesus wasn't in the tomb for literally 72 hours. And when I heard your video explain about how even Jesus rested on the Sabbath in the tomb, I felt you gave me a very truthful way of explaining the " three days" only needed to scripturally be fully one day of rest. Thank you!

  6. I hope you all know that if you keep one part of the law you might as well keep all of it and you will be judged according to the law. This is in Paul's letters, best of luck 🙏🏽 May the Holy Spirit help you all

  7. Q:- What is Sabbath?
    A:- "Rest or cessation ".

Q:- To whom it was given?
    A:- To the children of Israel ( Exodus 31:12-13; Exodus 31: 16-17; Ezekiel 20:12).

    Q:- Why it was given?
A:- To remember how The Almighty God brought Israelites out of Egypt. ( Deuteronomy 5:12-15).

Fun fact:- There is no record of any Sabbath keeping Among Adam, Moses, Isaac, Abraham, Jacob.

God bless you all. Please pray for Indian Christians. Amen.

  8. Quran:

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab: Translation:

Indeed, We created the heavens and the earth and everything in between in six Days,[[ See footnote for {7:54}.]] and We were not ˹even˺ touched with fatigue.[[ Some scholars believe this verse comes in response to Exodus {31:17}, which says, “The Lord made the heavens and the earth in six days, but on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.”]]

    Qāf, Ayah 38

  9. Excellent video on the historical, practical, numerical & scriptural importance of the Sabbath. Just one caveat, Jesus is our rest but not the weekly Sabbath day rest that he commanded us to remember. I agree with the spiritual significance, but not the context in which you lessen our responsibility to keep the actual day. Respectfully, please teach people to keep the biblical Sabbath, using the clock given in creation, specifically in Gen 1:14, which is contrary to the Gregorian (Catholic) calendar. Thank you Bible project for your illustrations they are creative and informative.

  10. I would recommend using the WLC Callander and reading “The Lunar Sabbath or the Seventh-Day Sabbath: Which?” by Charles Whitaker March 30, 2015

    God bless you 🙏

  11. I follow Charlotte Mason’s teachings on Sunday Keeping rather than a Sabbath. It’s about engaging in restful activities that cause us to ponder God’s goodness and creativity.

  12. Saturday is the sabbath, do not forget. The temple was always open every day, every second of the day. All the time. For a reason. You need God everyday. But you need rest from the world too. Hard labor. Pains. Afflictions. It is unlawful to curse people on sabbath. Which starts at sunset, Friday. To sunset saturday. God counts days before the sun rises, but it starts when he raises the sun. Not at midnight. He is in control of the day.

  13. Jesus didn't die on the sixth day according to prophecy, Daniel 9:26-27 and John 19:30-31 let us know it was the high day Sabbath the day after Passover. According to Daniel 7:23-25 they shall think to change the Sabbath but night and day will not cease to happen in their season, Jeremiah 33:20&25.

  14. Here's something to think about if you currently keep a Sunday Sabbath: You would need to keep it from Saturday sunset to Sunday sunset. (ie- not from 12am Sunday to 11:59pm Sunday). They didn't have clocks back then and God defines the days as starting at the evenings (sunsets). I'm a messianic christian. We keep the Shabbat on the 7th day, Friday sunset to Saturday sunset. We also keep the other appointed times (all appointed times are in Leviticus 23). Jesus/Yeshua kept the appointed times, and so did the apostles. For example: Acts 20:16

16 For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he would not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hurrying to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the Day of Pentecost. Acts 18:20-21

20 When they asked him to stay a longer time with them, he did not consent, 21 but took leave of them, saying, “I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem; but I will return again to you, God willing.” And he sailed from Ephesus. And others as well. P.S. — The saint/believer of the bible IS "Israel". And no, Israel does not mean "the Jews". Israel was divided into 2 kingdoms: The kingdom of Judah and the kingdom of Israel. The kingdom of Judah consisted of 2 tribes (Judah and Benjamin) and had some Levites as well. These three tribes of the 12 tribes of Israel make up the Jews today and the Jews back during the time of Jesus. P.P.S. — Jesus and all of the apostles were Jews (Jewish). Your savior is a Jew. P.P.P.S. — There are only 12 gates in Holy Jerusalem. You will be entering through one of those gates. There is no "gentile gate". The only gates are of the tribes of Israel. You are Israel, and the whole bible is for you.
