I own a 277 caliber Browning X bolt max long range, but it’s in 6.8 western

Saludos desde Argentina. ¡¡143 entradas diferentes!! ¡¡¡uau!!!

Its funny how people today still think the 6.5/06 is cool and they absolutely go gaga over the 280 "AI" but turn their noses up at the 270. Guys, they are practically the same thing!!

So basically, it's fine for 99.9999% of hunting everyone will do.
6.8 western? More like the 6.8 So What

The federal is running right around the 3060 is what it’s running. That’s a factory ammunition when you step up to the 150 it’s 2850 with 150 grand and then when you step into the loaders deal, that’s where it really shines because you can get maximum performance out of it. I don’t recommend that unless you’ve been reloading for a long time you know your rifle.

While i appreciate the advances made in the past centuty in both guns an ammunition, they really amount to just incremental improvemts. Todays rifles snd ammo can reach out a little further with a little more accuracy and punch. But not that much. Especially or a hunter.

Do we really need to shoot game pass 400 yards ? I see all kinds of problems from bullet performance standpoint and hunter marksmanship.

High Ron, I've been watching your shows for a few years now. I have some disputes with your rounds of choice choice

Hand loading is off fine good, I can't find any primers. I still can't find them.

My first 270 was a savage axis, i just couldn't like then i got a mauser in 6.5×55 and i haven't looked back at that 270

@BAbeef01

I think a big reason that 270 is still relevant is because it’s still cheaper than modern ammo as well. At the beginning of the video Ron mentions he has a 6.5 PRC and doesn’t need a 270. But 270 is close to half the cost ammunition wise as 6.5 PRC.

People dont realize how hard it is to hit your target with a range finder at 400 yards to even determine that your target is at 400 yards. Or how precisely you have to sight in your rifle in to hit a target at 400 yards. I shot a coyote at 400 yards with my AR15 with a 4×32 ACOG sight which has reticle graduations out to 800 yards if I recall correctly. But I knew the field was 1/4 square mile so I was able to accurately estimate the range. And I went prone so I had a solid rest. 400 yards is a long distance.

I prefer to carry a different rifle for different game instead of just having one.

But i like guns too much. I want them all. Im a big fan of the weatherby rifies. To me thete isnt anything better. Unless you custom building a rifle. But that would be very costly.

I want to snipe game at a mile away. I dont have a rifleto do it though.

My 338-378 doesnt like heavy loads. So its basically limited to 1200 yards. Maybe. When the barrel goes im going to change that.

Aren’t you the same guy who said 308 is obsolete? Professional at talking out your ass.

30 years or so ago, I went with a friend to a gun show. I don’t recall what he was looking for. Possibly muzzle brake options. I remember he was thinking about Mag-na-porting it. Anyway, there he was walking around the place with his pre-‘64 model 70 in .270 Win. slung over his shoulder. About every fourth guy we passed asked if he was selling it. I’m pretty sure after all that attention, he decided to leave it as-is.

Great Video!!! I'm looking at a new .270 Rifle and considering the Browning X Bolt 2 Speed LR with a 7.5 Twist. How will this twist do with the Hornady 145g ELD X? Will this spin too fast for the 145g? Thanks!!

There is no " modern need " for longer range in hunting. A shot beyond 400 yards is unnecessary at best in most hunting situations. The modern offerings are about one thing… Money. Nothing will kill a game animal any deader inside 400 yards than a 7mm Remington, 300 win mag, or .30-06. The 6.8 Western won't do a thing the 270 hasn't been doing for years. 6.5 PRC can't touch a 264 win mag. The hunting industry has gone completely off the rails with this stuff. They are solving a problem that never existed. There is a cartridge for every purpose that is older and better than anything produced in the last 10 years. A ballistics coefficient has never killed an animal or helped a hunter do so. Just my opinionated two cents.

Is it really hunting when you can have a normal tone conversation wile your ranging your elk at 800 yards…what a dumb concept.

@tb8209

Classic cartridge , very relevant..
Who shoots a deer further than 450 yards, if you do, you probably shouldn’t

@mosriteminioncause7741

To state how good the 270. win round is…The FS Steyr-Mannlicher Model M was bolt-action rifle chambered in .270 Winchester with the 23-inch barrel was a secretly just a Steyr SSG – 69 in civilian hunting calibers…same precision as the famous sniper rifle…one of the best .270 win. rifles ever made. My favorite and my most accurate rife is a Weatherby Vanguard VGS Rifle, .270 WIN. It is capable of making 400 yard shots 5 shots on a post-it note….in the right hands/eyes with the right ammo/loading far past that.

@aldocella4947

270 win is the perfect election year cartridge because it takes 270 to win.

@sanchtodd4203

I don't buy into the marketing and development of all the new cartridges out there. Now where are all those WSM and RUM and RSM cartridges today?

@slaphands7703
16 hours ago

Modern need for distance? Hunters just got lazy. Be a better hunter and get within range. I don’t care who’s shooting. Beyond 4-500yds even high bc bullets can scatter with the slightest breeze. Best ethical shot is get within range and keep your down range energy above 1300ft lbs on deer sized game. Bowhunters can stalk an elk or bighorn sheep within thrity yards but a rifle hunter can’t get within 400yds? Give me a break. Easily work on moose. Moose go down easier than elk. Huge kill zone. Put a hole in it and it goes down. I know poeple that have taken moose with a 243. Moose are big but go down easy.

What i don't like are all of these New cartridges replacing old classics. They will be gone in a the corse of a decade. Anybody rember the 450 Marlin?

@Fra907

Shot my first moose 296 yards with those terminal ascents 1 shot double lungs did 30 yards

@rudygeorgiamulesandcountry1594

There is absolutely nothing magical about a .277 caliber bullet .

I’ve hunted with 270 all my life good cartridge and it always works I also have 30-30 both work so but I’ve taken 150 yard shots but I’ve mostly have to shoot 40 yards or less

@SniperC175
16 hours ago

Hell no, outdated my arse. That's like saying infantry aren't required anymore. If your a "Hunter" and not a long range "Shooter" then the 270 is fine out to 400 or so depending on load. I really think that this latest generation puts too much emphasis on bullets with high BC and less on field and hunting skills.

Everyone needs a lower recoil rifle if its a 270 or a 6…. whatever but every hunter also needs something with more Thump as well
