1st day on DALES WAY and I'm in LOVE! π
Now, I already knew I had a bit of a soft spot for the Yorkshire Dales but day 1 of the Dales Way has absolutely cemented this place in my heart! It was a weirdly tough day but there was beauty around every corner that kept me going. I really hope you enjoy this journey as much as I did and please keep an eye for the rest of this mini…

Would be great to see you attempt the tour du Mont Blanc bit more of a strenuous trip but would be a great experience
Scouts and venturesβ¦β¦same for wife. Kids now in scouts and explorers. Love heading over to the lakes, Scotland and our beautiful Northumberland. Off to Aviemore for half term as loads of great stuff for kids to do up there. Definitely think scouting helps foster that love of being outdoors. The camps, incident hikes, wide games etc are still very much part of scouting and our local units have waiting lists. Popular and as cheap as ever. Love getting the kids away from the dreaded screens.
I'm so glad to have discovered your channel. Your videos transport me to places of the utmost natural beauty. This helps me enormously to unwind as your calming therapeutic mannerisms & your zest for life are what is so captivating. Thank you π
Watched the walk from start to finish it was fantastic to see you on your knees sometimes but still going on showed massive commitment well done lad, keep it going son it's a brilliant watch ,beautiful places some of them me and the wife had been to so we could understand your enthusiasm,we stayed with you all the way bless you for sharing this experience.
Cannot believe you gave those cows a wide berth
Tour of Mont Blanc, Camino…all good but plenty of walking in France. Well supported with infrastructure too.
1:04:50 we used to sing a song, "we call it smelly helly, yeah" to the tune of mellow yellow, definitely to be avoided! π
Great vlog looking forward to the whole walk
Are u star trek nerd like me u just said a Klingon say today is a good day to dead…lol πππ
Glad you liked the campsite – itβs owned by friends of mine, Jason and Claire!
Thank you for a lovely set of Yorkshire videos. I live half an hours ride away from Bolton Abbey and spent many days by the river with my son enjoying the scenery, water and picnics. I know he will do the same with his children. We are very lucky to have the gorgeous dales on our doorstep. Makes me proud to be from such a beautiful county. Do come again and check out The Strid – it's something to behold!
This is the England that I imagined reading the countless storybooks of childhood . When the sun shines it is the most beautiful country in the world
I wasnβt in the scouts but I ate a brownie once
Really enjoyed this Glenn, although Iβm having fomo right now after reading all the comments about the Strid π It is such beautiful, gentle countryside, so different from the harsh Aussie bush! I was a Brownie and a Guide and it had a huge impact on my life. Iβm still out in the bush every chance I get. Thank you for sharing your adventures π
St. Jacob's way in France
Have you ever considered doing Offas dyke?
Not sure if this has already been said Glenn but Appletreewick is pronounced 'Aptwick'. Just so you know fella!
Was a Guide and then a Ranger and brilliant memories of those big green tentsβ¦ Two Raven weekends where we nearly froze to death in the snow and then had to rescue belongings in the next as the campsite flooded π. I even won a place to go to an international camp in Sweden – wonderful and a whole different scale with totem poles and tables and benches made from whole treesβ¦β¦ Those ghost stories and sing songs round the campfire with spam fritters and hikes into the countryside definitely instilled the love of the outdoors and got us through the awful 1970βs and 80βs in Northern Ireland.
Thanks so much for your videos and they have inspired me to go camping and trekking again and so far I have completed St Cuthberts Way and the Arran Way this year and after watching this I think the Dales Way or the Cumbria Way might have to be nextπππ
Majorca..GR221….brilliant….totally away from tourists….Great path through mountains….my first long distance path..π
I can't believe you just bypassed the strid, probably the most impressive part of the whole part of this walk ππ
Nah then, ey up me duck.
This is one I've been looking at myself.
Lovely first day fella and of course it's going to be nice as it's in Yorkshire, Gods country.

This is fantastic, Glen.
Beautiful countryside. Love your videos.
Yes Iβve slept in (actually owned) a two-pole canvas tent with no fly and no groundsheet, back in the early 80βs.
β¦ As part of these βwaysβ walks, have you considered Joss Naylors βLake, Meres and Watersβ?
He did it in 19 hours (105 miles!!!), but for mere mortals, it breaks down into 8-10 sections.
West Highland way next? I absolutely love your videos. Keep it up!
English customer service πππ cracks me up itβs a thing of few welcoming smiles
Canβt believe you didnβt go to see the Strid. Itβs fantastic!
Loving these adventures, just had to pause it there cos youβve just said youβre going to camp, woo!! Excited! Back to the walk nowπ
It is a very pleasant walk
Beautiful!! I kept expecting to see Compo, Foggy and Clegg!! Parts were very Last Of The Summer Wine β€ just gorgeous β€
There are some ancient carved stones in Ilkley too iirc
excellent film making ! Rambling, in all definitions of the word π€£ welcome to my home turf. Its a shame you bypassed the Strid , arguable the most dangerous stretch of water in the UK ( google it as you say). – Brilliant weather for the dales way – looking forward to a most excellent part 2!
