10 Questions To Ask Your Landlord Before You Sign Your Next Lease | Clever Girl Finance

These items are typically included in a standard lease BUT before you sign a lease on your next home, make sure you read it carefully and fully understand what these things really need and ask your landlord for specific clarifications.

The last thing you want is to be tied into a lease you’ve signed and then find out something you don’t agree…

  1. Hi Clever Girl Finance, I hope you're doing well! I’d love to offer your channel/group free videos, live streams, and information about tenant rights, eviction processes, and what steps to take in difficult situations. Our goal is to spread awareness, provide guidance, and empower your audience with the knowledge they need. Let me know if this sounds helpful, and we can discuss how to get started. Thank you.

  2. One of THE BEST things I did when I made my Exodus was renters insurance. $10/month gave me a 'bundled' discount (because of my car) as well.
I had someone actually tell me I was committing fraud because all the items I was insuring were donated to us (I left a dv situation w just the children and my work clothes that I could salvage. The sheriff helped me get my deep freezer, the kids' dressers w their clothes, and the dryer. Everything else was left).

EVERYTHING else was donated from fellow teachers and volunteer swaps from the shelter.

FYI: I knew from previously working for the insurance commissioner's fraud division, it's NOT fraud.

Scrape up the $10-$15 to get it. But deeply consider what's worth a claim. My rental was riddled w mold and I was fortunate enough to find a dehumidifier that I kept going year round, but within the first 6 months, we almost lost the entire sleeper sofa someone had given us due to mold. I ended up trading it out for two double beds that I put on lifts to keep away from the floorboards and positioned the dehumidifier close to the vents to keep the dampness away. The replacement claim wouldn't have helped because the landlord would not rectify the situation and code enforcement would not enforce the code. Court was a joke and my county evicts first then asks questions. Within that year, my wheels started turning to get us out of renting & into a mortgage.

Necessity is truly the mother of invention…and YouTube 'University' is da 💣 !!

The insurance benefit far outweighs the risk factor, especially renters ins. It's really one of those things that should be on the 'less than the cost of a cup of coffee' commercials right up there with saving the Llamas & whales😂

  3. Hi Bola! Would you be able to video related to recessions, also what we're hearing about 'the great resignation'? I'd generally be interested to hear your perspective and tips on money and employment as it relates to the pandemic…if that's something that interests you ofc!

  4. I normally move every year, and I've run into almost all of these issues over the years! There are landlords who try to take advantage, so being prepared with a list of questions like this shows assertiveness and makes both parties expectations clear so there is no funny business from either side. Great video 🙂

  5. Thank you very much for this video. Just had a back and forth with a landlord of a condo because it indicated the tenant was responsible for pest control. I did not sign.

  6. I have also had to ask the landlord about their policies regarding owning a small separate freezer or a portable washer. Some places will charge you for the extra hydro or water usage and this depends on the utilities you pay. Thanks for sharing Bola.
