what color tie should I wear with navy blazer, light blue shirt and khakis ?
Great ideas, I might try some of these at work.
My office is pretty business casual, so most people don't wear suits (maybe once a week at most), and ties are an endangered species.
So I usually go with contrasting suit jacket/blazer/sport coat and trousers or chinos, and an open collar shirt. Since I don't wear ties, I use pocket squares as my go to accessory instead.
Does this method with differing shades of blue at 5:00 work with grey? I.e. dark grey trousers and light grey jacket, or vice versa?
I've been bad at dressing all my life. I absolutely suck at it. Almost 32 now but I believe it's never too late to change.

One of my favorite jacket/trouser combinations that often goes overlooked is an olive checked sport coat with solid dress trousers or chinos anywhere in the khaki/mid-brown palette. Greens are definitely underrated in most men’s wardrobes —and I’ve been told that olive looks particularly good with my skin tone—so my two go-to odd jackets are a beautiful House of Bruar olive windowpane jacket in heavy tweed and (for warmer weather) an old J. Crew olive/black houndstooth jacket made from a mid-weight worsted wool that still gets the job done. Either of these coats with some well-fitting cavalry twill chinos in dark khaki or “coyote” brown is money. Earth tones are relatively easy to match and will never go out of style for business/smart casual. Salute!
Enjoy your videos. In regards to statement jackets with contrasting suit slacks or denim pants I mainly see glen check, windowpane, tweed or solid jackets. But what about pin striped jackets with solid slacks or denim pants? Is that doable or is it a no no?

Thanks for this video, I was wondering how contrasting the colours between trousers and jacket should be. I don't have a huge wardrobe, jackets are mainly different hues in blue (with one blue-grey tweed jacket with a fine red line for winter), trousers are mainly chinos in dark blue, light blue, dark green, brick red, etc, with a few dark grey or black suit trousers. So black is discouraged, I hear, but grey could work? And similar colours can work if the hue is different enough?

Great ideas Jeff! Personally I like the necktie to be the statement piece. Right now I'm working on simple white and pale blue dress shirts with neckties that stand out a bit (without being too loud). Ties are where we can play around with colors the most, so that's where I like to have fun.

Hey brother. I've been running through these videos like water since I subscribed a couple days ago. This channel is easily one of the best things going on YouTube. I also appreciate how responsive you are to comments, especially given your undoubtedly busy schedule. I have two questions: One, can tweed pair with any other fabric/trouser other than denim/jeans? I'm a college professor who's lived almost exclusively in tweed and denim these past few years and I'm looking to step my game up this semester. Also on the topic of fabric, does it matter, in your opinion, whether the tops and bottoms match in that regard? Or is color the primary concern? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Great blazer trouser combinations. In Minnesota's winter, in addition to your excellent suggestions, I like a dark brown corduroy blazer with rust color chinos. It works well with a white turtleneck sweater and tan dress boots. Practical, warm, stylish 🙂

Jeff, excellent video! The blue/grey look at 1:28 was flawlessly executed. I know you used that example before (I get it. No need to mess w/ perfection 👍). That tweed look at 3:22 is my right in my comfort zone. With jeans, odd tweed trousers, matching tweed trousers, you just can't go wrong. WRT pattern/statement look at 6:14, I've seen whole suits like and I think that it's too much going on visually (for me), but now I see how to pull it off that bold pattern with style. Ive got a handle on monochromatic looks when it comes to casual/street wear but I've been hesitant about pairing different tonal blues in business casual. With your examples, I have more knowledge and confidence in how to pull off a similar look. Thank you for the wisdom.
