Here’s what I can say from my experience. I was boxing and doing jiu jitsu before i combined them and started training mma. It doesn’t matter how good at boxing ryan Garcia is, mma is a different world. The fact that he’s so good at boxing is actually a disadvantage for him in mma unless he learns mma striking. When I started mma I figured I’d be decent because I already had good head movement. Sure enough, an experienced guy tried to punch me in the face and I bob and weaved, right into a kick to the face. The kind of head movement you can pull off in boxing, specifically crouching motions, you will get your head kicked off doing in mma. Then there’s jiu jitsu, which is a WHOLE other topic. Jiu jitsu is what I specialize in im a Gracie student, and I promise I could tap out Ryan Garcia over and over. Sugar Sean could skip all striking and just wrestle and use jiu jitsu. His striking is good enough that he could contend with Ryan long enough to shoot a takedown. Boxers, please don’t start talking a big game until you at the very least do one mma sparring session. It’s too different.
