It is not safe for YT people because they disrespect our country, and lie about it but no one else has a problem visiting and enjoying themselves. How we gone let these people come visit our country when their only goal is to label us Pirates, Terrorists, and record landfill and say it is Somalia 🇸🇴. They scared because they know they spread propaganda because they know they are not welcome.
Somalia is developing. Aside from politically motivated attacks here and there, it’s safe. It’s not any more dangerous than the US, according to the global peace index. You can walk around safely by yourself in broad daylight and at night. Also, keep in mind that there are other regions in Somalia that are not within Shabab jurisdiction and is just as beautiful, they only control a small part which is unfortunately close to the capital. I’d suggest at least a 2 week visit so you can visit the south to Mogadishu & Merca and the north to Eyl, bosasso(mareero beach), hargeisa(ancient cave paintings). Somalia is known for its breathtaking landscape. There’s forests, mountains, beaches, and desert. You’ll have a blast. Also, watch other tourist perspective(specifically other Africans).

Am ethnicity somali been grown-up Sweden and living now in uk. I left with family before civilwar. I do tell stories to my children about the incredible/brilliant lifestyle on my childhood in mogadisho.
I am still missing and hope one-day be back home.

As to your question in terms of safety, there are plenty of other areas and cities that are safer than Mogadishu, the capital of the country. But Mogadishu is the richest and most loved by Somalis. Security is definitely improving than what it was 10 or more years ago. More foreigners are visiting and living there.
Did you know we even have numbers of refugees from Yemen and Syria choosing to live, set up businesses and medical centres in Mogadishu?!
Security is more relaxed in the evening, you will see people walking in the evening. It is a country with tremendous potential and we are slowly getting up on our feet.
