IOL Breaking News – South Africa

Think Durban, think Daily News. This 139-year-old institution is one of the province’s most established brands. With this high recognition factor, and by remaining relevant to its readers through the decades, it commands a trust and special loyalty from readers.

It is a daily companion, fully aware that an afternoon title’s biggest rival in the 21st century is not other titles, but time. It is warm, familiar, dependable and credible.

It reaches out every day, engaging with its readers and offering a strong and well-used platform for interactivity with them. With most of its readers in the greater Durban area, the focus and profile of the Daily News is shaped by the people it serves.

The newspaper thrives on people and emotions. It seeks to relate its news through people and their experiences.

It generates talking points, also catching national and international issues that are already under discussion. And it remains highly supportive of Durban and Kwa-Zulu-Natal’s success, off and on the sports fields.

Should the government provide condoms to school children, including those in primary school?
2 days ago Natlien Boënne 3
They should take the kids to help out at a crèche for a few days. Changing diapers and trying to calm a crying baby should be the best way to make an impact and teach abstinence
2 days ago Nichola Sewpersadh 2
What about promoting abstinence and the benefits of it as well? Show these kids people sick with hiv, aids and sexually transmitted infections then we will see if they still want to act like married adults!

1 day ago Varsha Junabadur 1
There's violence happening at school and now this....really.....how ridiculous. It's the parents responsibility to educate their kids as well and teach them what's right and wrong not only at school and making it the teacher's responsibility. Parents today are too lazy....put a tablet or ipad in the child's hand and think they doing the right thing. This is something that I definitely wouldn't like my children being exposed at school at such a young age.

    Update
Death toll from crash - 19 18 Killed in horror bus crash EIGHTEEN people have been killed and nine others seriously injured after a minibus taxi crash this morning.
It is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a bridge before rolling down an embankment in Msunduzi, near PMB. Russel Meiring, spokesman of ER24, said emergency teams arrived at the scene and found the minibus lying on its roof at the bottom of the embankment.  "Fifteen bodies were found lying around the vehicle. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that all fifteen had already succumbed to their multiple injuries. Nothing more could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene.
Paramedics were informed that members of the community had rushed approximately twelve patients to a nearby clinic roughly 100 metres away," said Meiring. He added that 12 patients lying in the clinic being treated by staff.  "Assessments showed that five had sustained critical injuries while the remaining had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions.
Unfortunately, after some time, three critically injured patients succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead," said Meiring.  The remaining patients were transported by various services to nearby hospitals for urgent care.

Condolences to the families and friends. We all know death comes at its own time and that we humans have no control over it. Don't blame each other and don't fight over it because that bridge was there for them not to cross but to meet their saviour. It's not anyone 's fault because the Creator didn't make a mistake, He wanted his people on this day and on that bridge. Who was going to say no?
