Ghana’s goalkeeper Razak Brimah insults Ghanaians (Afcon 2017)

Ghanaian shot stopper, Razak Brimah, has retracted and apologized to Ghanaians for comments he made in a social media post insulting them for criticizing his performance before and during Ghana’s games in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Gabon. Brimah said his words were “unacceptable and offensive” and did not represent his true values.

The 29-year-old who plays for Spanish club Córdoba CF, earlier on Monday [January 30] posted a video of himself on Facebook where he said “They (Ghanaians) talk too much, they should “f**k” go to hell. I am not hash but am “f**k” tired of this negative people, instead of supporting the team (Black Stars) to move forward and pray for the team, they sit out there and talk “sh*t.”

Among other unprintable words, the footballer said, ““They don’t know me I don’t know them but they talk “shit”, I am down but is annoying sometimes.

“Normally I don’t care about them I don’t watch anybody. Let’s come again.

“Since when did any Black Stars goalkeeper play nine games and only conceded three or four. So what do they want again, I don’t know. F**k “sh*t”.”

Although he deleted the video not long after, some Ghanaians who saw the it, took to social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter to chastise him for the comments.

Others demanded that he is sacked from the team immediately as a disciplinary measure.

Although no official from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) or the team in Gabon has commented on the development, it appears the player had received counsel to withdraw his earlier comment and apologize, which influenced his subsequent statement to that effect.

Full statement of apology

I have reflected over some comments I made this morning on Facebook and I wish to render my sincere apologies for this unguarded comments.

I accept that as an ambassador for my country Ghana and a role model for many across the globe, I should not have reacted this way even in the face of the insults directed at my mother.

The words I used are unacceptable and offensive and does not represent my true values.

I hope the general public will accept my apology as I focus on helping the Black Stars win the African Cup of Nations title.

I also want to use this opportunity to thank the fans for the overwhelming support they have given the Black Stars that has helped us to reach this stage of the competition.

President Nana Akufo Addo’s New Ministers in Bribery and Corruption Allegation (Ghana News 2017)

The Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament Joe Osei-Owusu has said he will proceed to the court next Tuesday to prove his innocence in the bribery scandal that has rocked his committee. According to him, he has never given any money to be given to the minority caucus on the committee, as has been alleged by the Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga.

The former Sports minister has alleged that Energy minister Boakye Agyarko attempted to bribe members of the minority caucus, through the chairman of the committee, in order to be approved by the appointments committee following his vetting.

He said GHC3000 was given to each member through the minority chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak, who had received the money from the chairman of the committee.

But speaking on the Starr Midday News Saturday, the Bekwai MP said he has not given any money to anybody to be given to the minority.

“As I have said already, I have not given any money to anybody to be given to anyone. I have not met or spoken to Muntaka over any money, either from Boakye Agyarko or from anyone. I’m not open to money discussions of such nature, I have never been and will never be,” he said.

He noted “ I will make a general statement on the floor and then on Tuesday proceed to the court to clear my name in this matter legally; and that’s what I will do”.

Meanwhile, the Bawku Central MP has insisted the incident took place and he is ready to stand by his claim anywhere.

Pope Skinny talks about his love for Samira Bawumia (Gh News 2017)

Hiplife artiste Pope Skinny has been given a two-week ultimatum to retract or apologise for publicly confessing his love for Ghana’s Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, or suffer the consequences of the fury of the Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA), a development-based youth group in the Northern Region.

“We had to calm the youth down because they were ready to trace him and deal with him but I told them I would call the newspaper which put out the story and get them to tell the boy to retract his statement and apologise within two weeks.

“What he said is a taboo under our customs and traditions. Samira’s husband is a Mamprusi Royal and it is impious and forbidden for any man to say he is in love with the wife of a royal. We are Mamprusis and would not watch someone trample on our traditions. We take strong exceptions to such blatant misbehaviour and we demand an apology from the artiste immediately. We assume he was ignorant of our customs but if he fails to apologise, then we know he has decided to intentionally step on our toes,” King J. Azortibah told NEWS-ONE when he called the paper’s editor and introduced himself as Chairman of the Manprugu Youth Association.

Pope Skinny, host of Kasahare Level on Adom FM, was reported to have confessed his love for Samira while hosting the show a fortnight ago.

“Bawumia’s wife has no size. Can someone get me her number so that I tell her that I want her to be my sugar mummy? I am in love with the woman…Forgive me Bawumia, you are my man but I am really in love with your wife. I wish I would have her for myself,” Pope Skinny was quoted by adomonline.com to have stated on the radio show.

King Azortibah explained further that apart from Samira being the wife of a royal, she is a Muslim wife and her religion frowns on men making such statements about married women.

“Even if the musician had said what he said in the form of a song, we may have taken it on a lighter note, and perhaps danced to the song, but he said it on radio and went ahead to state on his Facebook wall that the comment was not a joke. He has gone too far and ought to apologise ad retract his statement or we shall take him on as permitted by our tradition and accepted by law,” he reiterated.

NEWS-ONE could not reach Pope Skinny on phone to get a response from him, and he neither picked his calls nor responded to a text message sent to his phone.

However, the paper visited Pope Skinny’s Facebook wall and realised that on January 13, the musician had posted a comment on the subject and what he wrote was far from an apology.

Considering the growing wrath of the members of Mamprugu Youth Association, NEWS-ONE took an editorial decision not to republish the exact words of Pope Skinny’s January 13 post on Facebook.
